INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP DAY FRIDAY, 10 MAY, 2013

FRIDAY, 10 MAY, 2013

INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP DAY was celebrated in school on April 8 and 10  2013 during Assembly. The program which was coordinated by the Scholars Committee and the Young Ambassadors under the guidance of Mrs.Verma  was very interesting and entertaining.

There were 2 emcees ,scholars Li Zhuang Jing  who wore a pretty floral cheongsam and Nicholas, who was in an Indonesian costume. They are both from 3/1 and did a great job introducing the items.
After their welcome, we watched a PowerPoint presentation in which foreign students shared their views on how they are coping and adjusting to life in Singapore, away from their homes and families. We also heard from local students on their experiences in learning how to get along with their new overseas friends. Everybody unanimously agreed that the warm and friendly staff and students of  Temasek Secondary made settling in so much easier.

Next we enjoyed a medley of 4 dances from Indonesia, North America, China and Korea. Everybody appreciated and admired the music, costumes and different dance styles of these countries ,especially the effort put in by the participants in learning and practising their movements. The next item got the most rousing applause. This was the Fashion Show put up by 8 very brave and sporting PSG mothers who took to the catwalk and even danced as they displayed costumes from Indonesia, China, India, Pakistan, Vietnam and Korea. With the help of professional hairstylists and makeup artists, they had been transformed into gorgeous models. Special thanks are due to Ms.Zek who choreographed the item and trained the ladies to sashay to to the music. Our lovely model mums were Liana, Lelah, Junaidah, Hemal, Verlyn, Cynthia, Helen and Zek.

After this item, there was a quiz with questions about music, food, costumes, novels and flowers from different countries. It was great to see that many students were able to answer correctly and they were rewarded with chocolate bars. For the finale there were 14 students on stage and they sang a song called Waving Flags with verses  in different languages like English, Chinese, Malay, Indonesian,  Cambodian, French, Spanish, German and Vietnamese. The assembly ended after 45 minutes and everybody excitedly agreed that it had been truly enjoyable to whiz around the world and learn to appreciate and befriend those from different countries.
