Temasek PSG, together with the School of Family Education (SFE), organised a talk on ‘How to be an Effective Single Parent’ for the single parents of our students on 28 May 2011.

8 parents and 5 PSG members attended the talk. The speaker, Ms Cherly Ng, shared with us the challenges faced by single parents and how they can be effective even though they are doing it alone. It was an interactive session as the speaker involved the audience by asking us the potential and our expectations of our children and writing them down on the white board for discussion. She also stopped at intervals to allow us to share in groups of 2 or 3 on the points she highlighted. Those who are not single parents also benefited from the talk.
The parents were very open and some of them shared with us the problems they faced. We shared and learned at the same time from one another. It was a morning well spent. We hope that more parents will join us in future talks.
