POJAK NITE 2010

WEDNESDAY, JULY 21, 2010

The school foyer was transformed into a Peranakan-themed atmosphere on the night of 21st July 2010. The
event was organised by the Staff Welfare Committee of the school in collaboration with the PSG and the National Education committee, in order to foster stronger ties amongst teachers, staff and PSG members and their families. By 7.30 pm guests arrived dressed in their best Baba and Nonya outfits.

The program started off with a speech by new 2nd Vice Principal, Dr Ong Chun Ghee, who also introduced us to his wife and two children. This was followed by a karaoke song entertainment by Mr. Jared Oh and Ms Marilyn Soh.

All guests were then treated to a sumptuous buffet spread of Peranakan dishes such as a DIY corner of Popiah, Kueh Pie Ti as well as Chinese Rojak. The entire food area was decorated with batik sarongs and fans depicting a Peranakan atmosphere. There were mouth-watering Mee Siam and Laksa and not forgetting the Little Sayang Corner for the children with food contributed by PSG members, Mr Chegne How Boon and Mdm Nina Shah. The drinks counter featured a Mocktail demonstration by our very own students from Sec 3 NT.

The Magic Show by student Guowei from sec 4/10 and balloon sculpturing by Mr. Jared Oh were a hit with our little Babas and Nyonyas. There was also a Malay dance performance with some staff and PSG members participating in the dance .

It was definitely a fun night and was visible on the faces of all present! As conveyed by Mdm Jina Sim and Mr Chegne How-Poon, PSG committee members who were present, “The atmosphere was very Peranakan and relaxing and the food and entertainment were very enjoyable. Kudos to the students who came back on a Friday night to serve the drinks!”
