Diary of a Parent Mentor (LeaderCIP)

 9/7 405pm

Facilitator began the topic of
"The benefits and ways of communication" with a game:

The students happily played the game to forget their stresses for a while...

Then we watched a video "Power of Words':
'It is a beautiful day and I Can't see it'.

We learnt that with a change of words, we will get a change of the outcome.

Next,

We then got into groups to discuss how to communicate with different groups of people.
We went through how we speak with
1. Seniors with some authority or lots of experience.
2. Children or young siblings
3. Adults whom we may ask for discount or sponsorship

With seniors, showing respect and explaining our points convincing with facts and well-thought plans are useful.
With younger persons, we befriend them and get their trust and support.
With sellers or sponsors, we explain the benefits we can offer them and be sincere in words and actions to
convince them to help the needy

We came up with a few organisations which we could approach to volunteer our help.
We then write a conversation script for all to refer to as a guide.
Two students will partner each other to make the calls.
They were reminded to stay enthusiastic even being rejected
and also be flexible during the discussion
with the persons-in-charge with statements like
" Let me note down your points and bring them to my
group and come back to you. "

Next week will be exciting ! The students will return to report on the outcome of
their calls.

Respectfully,
Anna
